Grapevine

It’s another year where I say i’m going to get shit done but not get anything done. (Working hard on changing that.)

But in the mean time I have gathered up 5 things you need to keep a look out for in 2013! Enjoy!

* Attack of the Blogs *

This goes without saying but blogs have taken over just as much as podcasts have. EVERYONE writes for some sort of blog and those who don’t read blogs constantly.

Blogs to keep an eye out for..

Music: The Swollen Fox, JUMP, Deli Philly

Comedy: WitOut, It’s Always Funny In Philadelphia, SuperDPS

* New Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach *

I know not everyone out there is a sports fan but it’s will be a historic day in Philly when a new head coach takes over where Andy Reid left off. Reed’s record of 130-90-1 will be hard to for anyone else to live up to but it is time to see what direction the Eagles go in 2013.

* Toy Soldiers’ release of, “The Maybe Boys” *

Local heart-throbs Toy Soldiers are about to release their first full length album since 2010′s “Whisper Down the Lane.” This spring. I have have had the opportunity  to listen to “the Maybe Boys” and all I can say is that it’s mind blowingly good. Producer Bill Moriarty found a way to capture Toy Soldiers’ energetic live sound perfectly. This album is going to be hard to top.

* Comedy Podcasts *

In the past few years podcasting has slowly began to blossom into an amazing platform for comics to get their voice out in the world. From the L.A. comic scene to the smaller scene here in Philadelphia you can’t talk to any one without mentioning, scratch that, bragging about hosting a podcast. (I know because I do it). I feel in 2013 the rise of podcasts are going to overwhelm us but it’s never a bad thing. Seriously how can you complain about free entertainment?!

I just realized that I run a blog so why the fuck am I begging other people to name me the worst / most annoying Philadelphian of 2012 when I can just do it myself. There are tons of close completion but I feel like I take the cake and I will list the top 5 reason why below.

1) I started a music blog to promote music… Though I talk more about doing the blog then I actually do the blog.

2) I always wanted to do stand up comedy… Though I talk more about doing stand up then I actually do stand up.

3) I perused a writing career… Where did that get me? Annoying everyone I know into acting in it and then never following through with actually having a finished product… (4 rewrites later… still not finished.)

4) I bugged other blogs to name me the worst of the worst… (speaks for itself).

5) My name is Mike Baurer and I am the founder of Folk You Philly and I can do whatever the fuck I like. So y’all can SUCK IT. IN YOUR FACE DELI, WITOUT AND SWOLLEN FOX!

FOLK YOU PHILLY WILL BE BACK IN 2013 or will we?!

PHILADELPHIA – I’m surprised that this hasn’t happened sooner.

TJ Kong and The Atomic Bomb band members Kevin Conner and Joshua “J.A.M” Machiz have finally spoken up. After several years of not being in the lime light of one of Philadelphia most loveable bands, Kevin and Joshua have agreed to change their names to Dan to fit in with drummer Dan Martino and Guitarist Dan Burskewicz.

Sources say that Conner (lead guitar) and Machiz (upright bass) became fed up after a recent performance where fans approached them after the show and could not remember their names.

Machiz was last seen having a breakdown on an unsuspecting fan outside of the venue but before law enforcement were involved him and Conner fled the scene only to turn up a few days later changing both of their names.

Vocal/Guitarist and front man Dan Burskewicz and Drummer Dan Martino could not be reached for comments.

This is a hard changed for Kevin and Joshua to get used to so please be kind and say hello to Dan Conner and Dan “D.A.M” Machiz if you see them on the streets.

NORTHERN LIBERTIES – Many have suspected that The Tuesday Show and Fergie’s open mic night host Jonas Oesterle has clearly been getting better and better at his hosting duties but no one would have thought they would randomly see him performing a set impersonating himself at World Cafe Live‘s open mic night two weeks ago.

I received a strange email a few days ago confirming that this was not the only time Oesterle has been spotted around town.

Here is the email…

I will keep up with this story as new information comes in. If you know more about this please email folkyouphilly@gmail.com
